Aedes Mosquito

  • Adult Aedes mosquitoes are identified by their black and white markings
  • The larvae of this mosquito rests in a 45 degree angle from the surface of the water
  • Eggs are black in colour and shaped like a rugby ball


  • It takes 6 – 8 days for the egg to develop into an adult
  • Complete metamorphosis of Aedes mosquitoes include the egg, larval, pupa and adult lifecycle stages.


  • Habitat: mosquitoes breed in man-made containers with clean and stagnant water.
  • Mosquito bites: biting peaks at change of light intensity (after sunrise and before sunset).
  • Ades mosquitoes prefer darker colours like black and red to lighter colours.
  • These species of mosquito can only fly a short distance from between 50 – 100m.
